Review:
Joan Bauer a very intelligent fiction writer has written this amazing book called STICKS along with four other books: Sqaushed, Rules of The Road, Backwater, and Twonk, and amazingly won an award for each book. Joan Bauer in her book STICK talk about a 10 year old kid named Mickey Who loves to play pool and is very dedicated to what he does. All Mickey wants to do is follow in his fathers footsteps and win the Nine ball Championship.

The conflict in the story deals with how Mickey has to play Buck Pender, the school bully which is three years older than Mickey. Day after day Buck taunts Mickey, saying that he is going to loose in the tournament, so Mickey starts to loose confidence in himself thinking there was no way of winning the tournament, until an old friend of the family named Joseph Alvarez shows up offering to help Mickey get better. But sadly Mickey's mother can't seem to trust Joseph Alvarez for him to help Mickey, so for Joseph to help Mickey he needs to earn Mickey's mothers trust.

I think this is a great book because Mickey's amazing voice draws readers' attention, and the author Joan Bauer makes major and minor characters come to life to make this story so great. Bauer shows how committed a person is to a hobby, and it might even make you more committed. This is a great fiction book for kids that love sports and that love books that you never know what is going to happen next.
